All of the known civilized world has been conquered by the Canis Empire and for a long time the whole land has suffered under the oppression of the evil tyrant known as the Wolf Emperor. The only hope the people have lies in the fulfillment of one ancient verse of prophecy:
In dark times of the Wolf’s howl,
men will stumble beneath its claws.
In fear, they sin to escape its growl,
but consequently find its jaws.
The Arch of Life in ruins lay,
unless restored, no heaven’s feast.
Seek the Keystone, for balance pray,
the red ring that binds the red-eyed beast.
In a small village deep in a forested valley on the outskirts of the Canis Empire, three unlikely companions come together and set out in search of the elusive Keystone of legend that is believed to have the power to defeat the Wolf Emperor.
Kiba’s memories of his life are clouded by amnesia, and he is driven by a desire to discover his true identity. Kiba believes the Wolf Emperor may have caused his condition and may have answers. The more people Kiba meets that are hurt by the Emperor, the more he determines to confront him.
Atara is the only one of her race left in the valley after the Wolf Emperor tried to annihilate them when she was a baby. Her dream is that she will be reunited with her people one day, if they still exist, and she hopes that the Keystone will avenge them.
Amadeus, also known as Prophet, is a member of an elite order of monks and he has dedicated his life to finding the Keystone. Amadeus finds himself acting as baby-sitter to Kiba and Atara because he has a feeling they may be able to help him find the Keystone.
